Attorney

  • Amelia W.L. Darrow - Amelia focuses her practice on estate planning, elder law, probate and trust administration and guardianships.

As a trusts and estates attorney, Amelia addresses the complexities of asset titling and family dynamics. Among important planning documents such as Wills and powers of attorney, she drafts complex trust agreements, including Special Needs Trusts. She works with clients to achieve tax efficiencies and elegant asset transfer plans, addressing issues of succession.

Originally from Cambridge, Massachusetts, she too sailed, but unlike Jonathan, her boats were small and fast. So, she raced them. Amelia moved to Vermont to attend The Putney School then left to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Later she returned to Vermont to pursue degrees from the School for International Training and Marlboro College. She raised her family while running a daylily farm and went on to receive her juris doctor from Vermont Law School, cum laude.

Attorney Darrow has past experience in real estate and business law, immigration and refugee law. Early on, she clerked at the United Nations for a judge at the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Both tribunals were located in The Hague, The Netherlands, and included work in Arusha, Tanzania.

Attorney Darrow is an active member of the Vermont Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). She serves on the Professional Responsibility Board and is the past President of The Vermont Bar Foundation. She also serves on the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital’s Ethics Committee and on the Advisory Committee to the Vermont Supreme Court on Remote Hearings.
